Die Arbeit besteht aus einem Smartphone und einer Videoprojektion. Durch die Drehung des Displays in Richtung der Projektionsfläche und der Akt des Aufhängens des Geräts unmittelbar auf der Wand in der Tradition der Tafelmalerei wird das Gerät selbst zum Gegenstand der Arbeit transformiert. Die Lichtprojektion, die auf der Wand reflektiert, betont die Konturen dieses Objekts und seine grundlegende geometrische Gestalt.

Im Mittelpunkt der Arbeit zwischen dem schwarzen Objekt und der Wand steht das Licht als Phänomen unserer Zeit und seine Bedeutung im Hinblick auf die zunehmende Digitalisierung und die Flucht in der virtuellen Realität. Die malerisch anmutenden Gesten wie Wischen und Tippen, die beim Chatten, Mailen oder Shoppen auf dem Smartphone-Display entstehen, die diffuse und schnell wechselnde Farben und Lichtreflexionen des Displays erzeugen um das Objekt herum eine Art Schein. Das Video, das sich in einem konstanten Loop bewegt, stellt ein Fragment meines alltäglichen Bilderkonsums auf Instagram dar. Instagram als zeitgenössische Ausdrucks- und Präsentationsform von Bilder und Kunst im digitalen Raum wird in der Arbeit auf ihr physisches Hauptelement reduziert, nämlich das Licht.

The artwork consists of a smartphone and a video projection. By rotating the display towards the projection surface and hanging the device directly on the wall in the tradition of painting, the device itself is transformed into the subject of the work. The light projection reflected on the wall accentuates the contours of this object and its fundamental geometric form.

At the core of the work, between the black object and the wall, is light as a phenomenon of our time and its significance in the context of increasing digitization and the escape into virtual reality. Painterly gestures such as swiping and tapping, inherent in activities like chatting, emailing, or shopping on the smartphone display, create a kind of aura around the object with diffuse and rapidly changing colors and light reflections from the display. The video, constantly looping, represents a fragment of my daily image consumption on Instagram. Instagram, as a contemporary form of expression and presentation of images and art in the digital space, is distilled in the work to its physical primary element—light.
